This uniquely powerful image shows the shaman (blue figure) with the tobacco pipe cleansing “spiritus malos” or bad energy, which appears in the form of the furious looking serpent. Dark green tobacco leaves, a pink central flower, smoke, and prayers fill the circle where the healing ceremony takes place. The circle is the protection and support of mother earth for the healing work. Hummingbirds bring joy, clarity, and vigor. The ceremonial vases (the “Tinaha”) cook visionary ayahuasca healing medicine which sprouts vision (flowers). The wiggly white border are the teeth of the piraña, another layer of protection for the healing ceremony. The brown half-circle around the border are images of sickness or bad energy contained and kept away from the healing work happening inside the circle. This is an extraordinary art work. 27” x 28”.
