Prayer for the Sun

Jaime Meyer • May 1, 2024

Greeting the Father/Mother of Life

I wrote this as a Beltane prayer to honor the return of the light half of the year. However, greeting the sun is a core prayer practice and this prayer can be used as a morning prayer or summer solstice prayer. I've played with some phrases and structures from charms found in the Scottish highlands. Feel free to use it, adapt it, make it your own.

You are the sun of suns

Bountiful mother of life

Singer of the great song of flourishing.

How grateful I am to behold you once more

When so many have passed beyond

Since last I bowed my head to you.

Bless, oh light of life,

Music of wonder and delight,

My loved ones, my family, my children and my animals.

Bless the people of earth and all creatures of life.

Cleanse them of any sickness,

In mind, in heart, in body and in soul.

Open the wondrous road of fruition to each one.

In the windswept hills, on the blossoming plain, in the rivers and waters, and in the deep.

Bless everything in my dwelling

And in my responsibility.

Bless them with the abundance that they have been seeking for all of this life and all other lives.

The creatures and crops,

From hill to valley,

From wave to wave

From gust to gust

From edge to deep

In currents and soil

Bless all with your great song of full life.

Protect us from all harm

From all evil

From arrow, spear and blade

From unkind words and thoughts

From envy and narrowness of heart

And all theft of life.

Deliver fullness and fruiting to each,

A full four-chambered heart to every one.

Health, endurance and vision to each

And, to each,

Sweetness of soul.

Sweetness of soul.
